Medical Update - August 24 2008

As many of you know a bike went down during our Iowa River Hospice Charity Ride.  The good news is that Dave and Brenda are expected to fully recover from this one vehicle accident.

The accident happened as our second group made its way toward the Toledo stop.  The bike went off the road and onto the shoulder.  I was told the Dave lost control of the motorcycle as he tried to drive from the shoulder back onto the road way.  Both Dave and Brenda were transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Check your insurance 08/24/2008

Do you read your insurance policies close enough?

Is your passenger excluded from medical coverage?

Yesterday, I was told that this policy does exist.  Some people may purchase their policy and think that their passenger is covered when they are not.

I called my insurance company today and I want to give you a summary of what I was told.

Motorcycle coverage is a little different when compared to regular automobile coverage when it comes to the medical coverage of the passenger.  Passenger medical coverage does not come with your basic policy.

You have to purchase an additional piece with your policy to cover medical costs for your passenger.

Please check your policies now because your insurance company could simply deny our claim if an accident ever happens that causes injury to your passenger.

Another piece that can be added to your motorcycle policy is the coverage of additional equipment.  Most people that purchase motorcycles add extra equipment/accessories to that motorcycle.  Your insurance company will not cover the extras unless you purchase this additional insurance.   Keep your accessory receipts.
