Today many people across our country choose to celebrate a day designated as Jesus's birthday by giving gifts to one another. This is a time of year that should be happy for all of us. But for some, the celebrations of Christmas fall short.

Imagine the child that has no tree in the living room. No presents with her name on it. ABATE District 6 members decided that they could help send a positive message into a world of sad situations.

There is no way we can help everyone that needs help ...

Please read the story below.

Once a man was walking along a beach. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Off in the distance he could see a person going back and forth between the surf's edge and and the beach. Back and forth this person went. As the man approached he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide.

The man was stuck by the the apparent futility of the task. There were far too many starfish. Many of them were sure to perish. As he approached the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them into the surf.

As he came up to the person he said, "You must be crazy. There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish. You can't possibly make a difference." The person looked at the man. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean. He turned back to the man and said, "It sure made a difference to that one!"

Join us as we split off into groups and go to our sponsoring businesses to distribute coffee cans. Customers then over the next few months fill the cans with change from their purchases. When Christmas finally arrives there is a gift for that little girl and for that little boy and we can say, "It sure made a difference to that one!"

Join ABATE and be a part of something good!

Merry Christmas…!  That’s what it will be for a lot of children this year in Marshall county and surrounding areas thanks to the efforts of District 6 of ABATE of Iowa and supporting business’. In District 6, the annual fund raising campaign netted over $1,700 in donations.  On Saturday, December 9th, several ABATE members went shopping for toys at K-Mart who offered a generous discount.  Well over 200 toys were purchased and donated to Major Abe Tamayo of the Salvation Army.  In addition, the group will donate $500 to the Home Connection of Hardin County.  ABATE District 6 wants to thank everyone who participated in this generous effort.

ABATE of Iowa is a not-for-profit organization registered in the state of Iowa.  The ABATE acronym stands for “A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education”.  There are 23 districts in Iowa, and District 6 in central Iowa represents members in Marshall, Tama, Hardin and Grundy counties.
